1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we store:

• Display name — the nickname you choose (unique across the platform)
• Device identifier — a random UUID stored on your device to keep your session persistent

We do not require an email address, phone number, or password.

1.2 User Content

We store the content you create within the app:

• Movie suggestions — movie titles, your notes (max 140 characters), streaming service, and timestamps
• Friend connections — list of users you've connected with (stored as user IDs)
• Saved movies (Vault) — movies you've saved from friends' suggestions

1.3 Movie Metadata

Movie information (posters, release years, genres) is retrieved from TMDB (The Movie Database) and displayed within the app. This data is fetched on-demand and not permanently stored on our servers.

1.4 Technical Information

• Push notification token — to deliver suggestion notifications
• Session token — to authenticate your requests
• Usage timestamps — when you create or respond to suggestions

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely to provide ReelCircle's core features:

• Account management — authenticating you and managing your profile
• Suggestions — storing and delivering movie suggestions between friends
• Friend connections — connecting you via QR codes, links, or display name search
• Push notifications — alerting you when friends share suggestions or respond to yours

3. Data Storage

3.1 Cloud Storage (Firebase / Google Cloud)

• Your display name and account data
• Friend connections
• Movie suggestions and vault entries
• Push notification tokens

3.2 On-Device Storage

• Session credentials (stored securely in iOS Keychain)
• Device-bound client ID (stored in iOS Keychain)
• Cached user preferences

What We Share

• Firebase / Google — backend infrastructure and push notifications
• TMDB — movie search queries to retrieve metadata and posters
• Apple Push Notification Service — to deliver push notifications

What We Don't Do

5. Your Rights

• Access — view all your suggestions and connections in the app
• Delete — remove suggestions, disconnect from friends, or sign out to clear your session
• Data export — request a copy of your data by contacting us
• Account deletion — request permanent deletion by contacting us

6. Data Retention

• Account data — retained while your account is active
• Suggestions — expire after 7 days unless saved to vault
• Session tokens — expire after 30 days of inactivity

7. Security

We protect your data using industry-standard measures:

• All network communication uses HTTPS encryption
• Firebase security rules restrict unauthorized access
• Session credentials stored in iOS Keychain (hardware-encrypted)
• No passwords stored anywhere (passwordless auth)

8. Children's Privacy

ReelCircle is rated 4+ and suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent and believe your child has provided personal information, please contact us to have it removed.

9. International Users

ReelCircle uses Firebase (Google Cloud) which may store data in data centers globally. By using ReelCircle, you consent to the transfer of your data to countries other than your own.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date and posting the new policy on this page.

11. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

California residents have additional rights: right to know what data we collect, right to delete personal data, right to opt-out of data sales (we don't sell data), and right to non-discrimination.

12. European Privacy Rights (GDPR)

EEA residents have rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and the right to object.

ReelCircle is committed to protecting your privacy. We believe movie suggestions should be shared with friends, not with advertisers.
